Consigned to Death Nominated
for an Agatha: Best First

Consigned to Death

This fan-voted award, sponsored by the annual Malice Domestic conference, recognizes the best traditional mysteries each year. “I can’t tell you how excited I am,” Jane said. “To be nominated for an Agatha for Best First Novel, well it’s thrilling!” The winner will be announced at the Malice Domestic annual banquet on Saturday, May 5, 2007. “I am honored and proud to be a nominee,” Jane explained.

Cooking Tip from Josie’s Mom

ripe tomato

Josie loves tomatoes, even in winter when they merely hint at the bursting flavor she relishes in summer. Josie’s mom taught her to enhance the flavor by cutting them in half, and soaking them, exposed sides down, in a brine composed of salt and sugar.

Other recipes from Josie’s mom are on Jane’s website.

Unpublished Fact
About Josie

A+

Josie got an A in Statistics in college. “It’s my proudest grade,” she says. “I didn’t know anything about the discipline, and discovered that I really liked it.”

Antiques Collecting Fact:
Did You Know?

clockClocks remain one of the most popular collectibles, and as with many things, technology and innovation affect design.

The pendu-lum, for instance, was designed by the Dutch-man, Christiaan Huygen between
1657-8. The device was quickly accepted and perfected in England, and by 1680, the best clocks were made in England.

Some of the great English clockmakers from that period include Fromanteel, East, and Knibb.

Josie doesn’t wear a watch because it always seems to get in the way when she’s working, but she loves clocks. “I admire precision and craftsmanship,” she says.
