Unpublished Fact
About Josie

Josie wants a tattoo. She’s toying with the idea of getting a rose tattooed on her left shoulder. "I don’t know why. I just think it’s sexy-looking." When asked why she doesn’t do it, she explains, "I keep thinking that I’ll regret it. Until I become convinced that I really, really want it — forever — I’ll hold off."

The U.K. Rights
Have Sold!

Our friends in London, Belfast, Scotland, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia will soon be able to get a copy of Consigned to Death.

Of course, this isn’t the first foreign sale—that honor goes to Russia!

Cooking Tip from
Josie’s Mom

"The secret to roast chicken," Josie’s mom explained, "is paprika. And basting."
Josie’s Roast Chicken, and all the recipes for dishes mentioned in the books, are published on Jane’s website as soon as the book is published. That means you’ll need to wait until  Deadly Appraisal is published in April 2007 to see how Josie’s mom prepared Roast Chicken! But there are lots of yummy recipes posted already—everything mentioned in Consigned to Death! Check out Josie's Mom's Recipes.

Antiques Collecting Fact:
Did You Know?

Many times, non-scientific information is key to verifying ownership and/or authenticating an object. For instance, James McNeil Whistler was known to  use super-long brushes so he could paint while standing far away from his canvas.

Art experts can use facts such as that to help them authenticate paintings by evaluating the thickness of the paint, the stroke style, etc.

Consigned to Death:
The Third Printing!

As you may know, the first edition of Consigned to Death sold out before its publication date in April, and Jane has just learned that the book has gone into a third printing!

The paperback of Consigned to Death will be published two weeks before the hardcover of Deadly Appraisal. Both editions will be published in April 2007.

Jerry and His Flashlight Will Be Featured in Josie #3,
Lethal Legacy
!

Teri W., from Nashville, TN, a recent trivia contest winner, decided to select the prize of naming a character in a future book.  She chose her dad—here’s what she wrote:

I want the character to be named JERRY KEAS (pronounced KEYS).

Why? That was my father's name. My father encouraged me to read, especially mysteries, by passing along all his Perry Mason paperbacks when I was just 8 years old. My mother didn't approve of them or the book covers on his Mickey Spillane paperbacks, so I read mostly Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and Trixie Belden stories in front of her.

He would also buy me batteries for my flashlight so I could continue reading late into the night.

It would be an honor to have him as a character in the genre he loved and started me on and thus encouraged my love of reading and mysteries.

Thank you so much! Just let me know what book it will be and when it will be published. I'll be first in line to buy a copy!

Isn’t that a wonderful story? Jerry will be a character in Lethal Legacy, the third book in the Josie Prescott series (to be published by St. Martin’s Minotaur in April 2008).

How Do You Cope?

One of Jane’s recent BLOG entries discussed nightmares. Jane gets them—do you? She heard from several people that her comments resonated with them. How about you? Jane would love to hear from you. Visit the Blog!

Various Covers—One Book!
Each time a new edition is released, usually a new cover is prepared. For instance, here’s the original cover of Consigned to Death.

The large print edition has a different, yet similar-in-feel, cover.

But look at the paperback! As you can see, it's going to be way different — more fun, brighter —and it is an illustration, not a photo. Note also how St. Martin's has created a branded look: The hardcover of Deadly Appraisal conveys the same bright, light-hearted feel as does the paperback of Consigned to Death.
