My grandmother gave this table to me many years ago. When she obtained it from an estate sale she was told it was an Irish Tea Table. As you may see in the photos, the table is only about a foot and a half high with many carving details as well as a diamond design on top. It is in very good shape with one
small flaw on one side.
Salt Lick
Description:
Salt licks were used on eastern and Midwest farms and frontier kitchens as far back as 1650. This salt lick (lidless) was bought from Smith farm in Southern Indiana, near Hartford City by my grandmother Laura Mahan. This was probably on farm in the barn.
McClelland Barclay Painting
Description:
I've owned this painting for about 35 years. I bought it directly from McClelland Barclay's fiancé, I believe her name was Maddy. She was showing his work at a small gallery in West Hampton Beach, LI, NY about 1970. I came across it in a back room, it was unframed and not on display. I bought it because of the story she told me was interesting. She said it was the last thing he painted before going to war, where he died. It's done on illustrator's board with only red, white and black paint and she believed it was a premonition of death. Notice the match burning down to the man's fingers, the ghostly figure in the upper right corner and of course the colors. It was appraised in the early '80s for $2600. It's in perfect condition.
